Providence RN - Palliative Care in Colville, Washington


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Pallative Care (Medical/Surgical, Days, 0.6 FTE) to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, Washington . In this position you will:

  • Assess health status for specific patient populations using advanced practice knowledge and skills:

  • Obtain relevant health and medical history.

  • Perform a physical examination based on age and medical history.

  • Identify physiological and psychological conditions.

  • Identify patient’s symptoms and goals, and serves as a patient advocate with health care providers.

  • Possess a working knowledge of comprehensive Palliative Care.

  • Synthesize information from the history, physical, and diagnostic tests to develop, document and implement an Interdisciplinary Palliative Care treatment plan:

  • Establish practice agreement with collaborating physician.

  • Collaborate with patient’s primary physician in a consultative role.

  • Collaborate with all of the patient’s physicians and other health care team members in developing realistic treatment goals.

  • Initiate advanced care-planning discussion.

  • Develop and implements treatment plan with members of the Supportive C.A.R.E. Team and unit staff.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families for understanding of diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan.

  • Determine effectiveness of treatment plan and documentations patient care outcomes.

  • Revise and modify the treatment plan to achieve patient goals.

  • Knowledge of pharmacology principles in the frail patient with advanced illness.

  • Meet hospital and TJC documentation standards.

  • Assist program manager in the development of nursing assessment tools and program-specific policies and procedures.

  • Respond in a timely manner to meet physician and patient needs.

  • Promote Palliative Care to patients, families, community and other health care professionals:

  • Serve as a resource to hospital staff and team members.

  • Assist in educating hospital staff regarding the use and implementation of hospital comfort care order set, and end-of-life protocols.

  • Develop staff and physician relationships that facilitate ongoing referrals.

  • Provide education to patients, families or caregivers as needed.

  • Provide continuing clinical education to staff, community and other professional groups as requested.

  • Take action to meet customer needs/desires with respect to customer diversity. Helps improve processes to meet customer needs and suggests and acts on ideas to improve overall customer service.

  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

  • Attend meetings as required.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire

  • All Registered Nurses without a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) degree or higher must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire.

  • A RN with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN

  • Any previously agreed upon effective date for obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in nursing between individual and facility will remain in effect.

  • Any collective bargaining contract with specific time frames for obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in nursing will supersede the above point and will remain in effect.

  • Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis at each facility by the most senior administrative nursing leader in consultation with the Human Resources leader.

  • RNs employed prior to 1/1/17 are encouraged to obtain a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Nursing, but obtaining the degree will not be a condition of employment.

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Current Washington Registered Nurse License

  • Three (3) years of inpatient, hospice, or home care experience.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing upon hire.

  • Thtee (3) years experience in Palliative Care or related fields.
